ABSTRACT

A cystic mass with papillary adenocarcinoma in the anterior upper neck can be classified as 1) cystic degeneration of metastatic neck nodes from thyroid papillary adenocarcinoma, 2) metastasis from thyroid papillary adenocarcinoma to thyroglossal duct remnants and 3) papillary adenocarcinoma originating in the thyroglossal duct remnants. Nodal metastasis from papillary adenocarcinoma originating in the thyroglossal duct remnants are rare. Wide local excision is the treatment of choice and usually this treatment results in excellent prognosis. The authors experienced 2 cases of papillary adenocarcinoma originating in the thyroglossal duct remnants. Sistrunk's procedure by En-bloc fashion and near total thyroidectomy were done to achieve curative treatment.
