Laryngeal involvement in the systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) has is been described but is considered unusual. Symptoms such as sore throat, hoarseness, and dysphagia may be common, but documentation of specific pathologic abnormalities is lacking. Most case have ocurred during exacervation of systemic disease activity. Laryngeal manifestations include mucosal ulceration, edema, corditis, and rarely epiglottitis or vocal paralysis. We present a case of SLE combining acute epiglottitis and laryngeal inflammatory mass.
