Electrical stimulation of the intrinsic laryngeal muscle is one of the methods of rehabilitation of the vocal cord paralysis. Since the report of Obert in 1984, various procedures of stimulation have reported. But kinds of electric stimulation were of variety. Knowing the position of the vocal cord with the change of electric stimulation is fundamental for the study of electric rehabilitation procedures of the laryngeal paralysis. We investigated the position of the vocal cord depending on stimuli using our own stimulator and electrode under the videolaryngoscopic examination in the canine larynx. Results are as follows ; 1) Abduction was noted with the stimuli below 20Hz, adduction was revealed above 30Hz stimuli. So vocal cord position was totally depend on the frequency of the stimulus. 2) Threshold of recurrent laryngeal nerve was 0.5 V. 3) The length of the vocal cord was increased and glottic opening was decreased with simultaneous stimulation of RLN and SLN, comparing with that of RLN stimulation only. 4) Vocal cord position is depend on the electric stimulation, especially on the frequency. For the clinical application, laryngospasm may be treated with electrical stimulation of RLN, if we can stimulate it transcutaneously.
