A Statistical Survey of 160 Cases of Malignant Tumors in E.N.T. Field

ABSTRACT

A statistical survey of 160 cases of malignant tumors in otolaryngological field, for the five-year period (1961-1965) in the Severance Hospital, had been made. The tumors were histopathologically verified, and their incidence, sex ratio, age distribution and some discussions were carried. Among total 732 cases, the malignant growths were 160 cases (21.9 percent) and the carcinomas were 137 cases (18.7 percent) in which 112 cases (70 percent ) were squamous cell carcinomas. The sex ratio between male and female cases as abtained as about 4 : 1, and peak incidence on age distribution was in the aged groups between 41-70 (127 cases : 83 percent). The most frequent regional incidence was obtained in the larynx (49 cases : 30.6 percent) and others were oral cavity (45 cases : 28.1 percent), and proper nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses (42 cases : 26.3 percent) as order series.
