ABSTRACT

The lodgement of coins in the esophagus presents the endoscopist with one of the most common foreign body problems. Recently we experienced a case of esophageal foreign body, lodged for 3 years and 9 months. A 5 years and 10 months old boy visited to Dept. of Otolaryngology, Seoul National University Hospital, referred from Dept. of Pediatrics, because of regurgitation of food, which was developed 3 years and 9 months ago, when cyanosis was developed suddenly after swallowing of coin, which was expelled out with cough, soon later. And then regurgitation of food was developed with semisolid diet and persisted but he could swallow fluid diet. Esophagogram showed radio-opaque density between second and third physiologic narrowings, which was removed with esophagoscope, 7×300 mm. About 3 days later after removal of the coin, he could take regular diet.
