Two Cases of Maxillary Foreign Body

ABSTRACT

Foreign bodies in maxillary sinus are not so common, and there are two types of maxillary foreign bodies according to their causes, one is due to various kinds of accidents, and the other is iatrogenic, mainly retaining gauze or medical instruments after sinus operations or teeth extractions. This report presents two cases of maxillary foreign bodies, one was lead bullets in right maxillary sinus of 3 years old female, caused by shrapnell wound and the other was dental impression material introduced after extraction of right upper molar tooth for full denture. The foreign bodies were removed sucessfully without any complications and there was no late occurrence of toxicity despite of retained one small lead bullet in posterior ethmoid sinus because of difficulty to approach.
