ABSTRACT |
Author experienced recently two cases of malignant tumor of the ear. Case 1. A 57 year old female came in the hospital on Nov. 31, 1971 having walnut sized painless circumscribed and ulcerative lesion on the concha of the left auricle. Histopathological diagnosis was basal cell carcinoma. On Dec. 10, 1971 resection with skin graft was done and postoperative X-ray irradiation (4,000R) and 5-FU (3,500mg) were done. Any evidence of malignancy was not found yet at present. Case 2. A 39 year old male was admitted to our department of Jan. 21, 1971 with failure of postoperative wound healing of the mastoid. One month prior to admission, radical mastoidectomy was performed at a private clinic under the diagnosis of the left chronic otitis media. Two weeks prior the admission, diffuse moderate hard swelling was noted on the left temporal and zygomatic region which rapidly growth in size. Radiological finiding of the left temporal bone revealed extensive bony destruction resulting from malignant involvement. Histopathological study confirmed squamous cell carcinoma. The X0ray irradiation (3,000R) and 5-FU (5,000mg) were given, however the result was unfavourable and died on 16-April, 1971.
