ABSTRACT

Our experience for rhabdomyosarcoma originating from middle ear was helpful in clinical practice of ear tumor, esp. in child, and rhabdomyosarcoma has been rarely reported in literature since 1854, when C.O. Weber described it occurred at tongue. Generally rhabdomyosarcoma is uncommon tumor which originate in the middle ear, but most common malignant mesenchymal tumor of child. Rakov described it shows microscopical findings as following patterns. 1) Polymorphism of tumor cells 2) Spindle cells 3) Giant cells 4) Peculiar arrangement of stroma 5) Fibrils sometimes cross striated and Horne and Enterline offered classification of rhabdomyosarcoma according to arrangement of above mentioned numerous patterns which is recently accepted it is as follows 1) Pleomorphic type 2) Alveolar type 3) Embryonal type 4) Botryoid type. A 10 year old boy was admitted is ENT Dept. of P.M.C. of Chun Ju with ear pain, bloody discharge in left ear and facial palsy of left face on March 15th 1967. On his past history Radical mastoidectomy on left ear was performed at local ENT clinic 6 months before entry under impression of aural polyp. Thereafter, it aggrevated. After admission palliative D.R.T. with Nitrogen mustard and Actinomycin D which is thought to be somewhat effectful, were given. The patient was died on July 28th 1968 (one year and 3rd day later).
