A Case of Rhinolithiasis

ABSTRACT

Rhinoliths are called as nasal concretions or nasal calculi. They are usually unilateral and located, in the majority of instances, in the lower portion of the nasal cavity. The stones vary in shape but usually conform to the shpae of the nasal cavities. Recently the author experienced a case of rhinolith in the right nasal cavity of 20 year-old male suffering from nasal obstruction on the right side, malodorous purulent discharge and headache since about 10 years ago. Anterior rhinoscopy of the nose revealed a white gray hard mass between the septum and the inferior turbinate at the anterior portion of the right nasal cavity. Under lacal anesthesia, the mass measuring 2.5cm×1.5cm×2cm and weighing approximately 2.5gm was removed with the use of a hook and nasal forceps.
