ABSTRACT

Recently considerable attention has given to laryngeal and tracheal injuries. Etiologic factors are traffic accident, sport trouble, stab or gunshot wounds, prolonged endotracheal intubation or use of an indwelling nasogastric tube. Early diagnosis and prompt management is essential to reduce morbidity and complication. If cervical emphysema of airway obstruction is developed, tracheostomy below the site of the airway injury is immediately indicated. The most important objective in these injuries is the restoration of a satisfactory airway without stenosis, and to obtain a functional voice. Recently the authors experienced 4 cases of laryngeal and tracheal injuries and reported with review of literatures.
