ABSTRACT

For study of pathogenesis of nasal polyp, an evaluation of the level of serum and polyp IgE, cell types on the touch prints with polyps and blood eosinophil counts was performed in 20 cases of nasal polyps who had taken polypectomy in Choongnam National University hospital. The results were as followings, 1) Lymphocytes and neutrophils were predominant on the touch prints with polyps in all cases and there were rare eosinophils. 2) There was no significant relationship between the level of serum IgE and blood eosinophil counts. 3) The level of IgE in serum and polyps was normal range in all cases, except 2 cases, they had elevated level of IgE in both serum and polyps. 4) There was no significant relationship between the level of IgE in serum and polyps and the cell counts on touch prints with polyps. As above results, it seems that nasal polyp is caused by chronic inflammation rather than by allergy in most of our cases.
