ABSTRACT

Treatment results of 186 laryngeal cancer patients were analysed in Seoul National University Hospital from Jan. 1979 to Dec. 1983. 1) Supraglottic region was most predominant as 49.5%, glottic 37%, subglottic 6.5% and transglottic 7.0%. 2) Advanced cases such as stage III or IV were 74.2% of the patients. 3) Rate of cervical metastasis according to T-stage was 20.5% in T2 stage, 49.3% in T3 stage and 64.5% in T4 stage. In whole, cervical metastasis was observed 39.8% of the patients. 4) Cure rate with minimal follow-up of 1 year by curative radiotherapy including salvage operation was 95.0% in stage I, 77.3% in stage II, 34.6% in stage III and 10.0% in stage IV laryngeal cancers. 5) Cure rate by primary surgery with postoperative radiotherapy was 80% in stage II, 71.4% in stage III, and 30.8% in stage IV. 6) In cases of cervical metastasis, cure rate was decreased markedly to 19.1% in whole. Surgery was considered to be the better method of treatment compared to radiotherapy.
