ABSTRACT

This paper presents a clinico-pathological analysis of the laryngeal polyp and vocal nodule. 94 Cases of laryngeal polyp and nodule were studied clinically and histopathologically in the past 4 years from Jan. 1981 to Dec. 1984. The following results were obtained : 1) The age distribution showed the highest incidence in 40's (31%), then 30's, 50's in decreasing frequency. And male was more common than female by two times. 2) The occupational difference doesn't seem to give any effect on its occurrence and more than half of the cases made the first visit to clinic between 3 to 12 months from the onset of symptom. 3) Many of the cases don't be associated with any other symptoms and the most common associated symptom was feeling of something in throat. 4) Unilateral occurrence(67%) was much more common than bilateral(33%). 5) Most of the cases was located at the midpoint between ant. third and mid. third of the true vocal cord(83%). 6) Majority of the cases ranged from 3mm to 5mm in size and mostly(75%) sessile in shape. 7) Histopathologically, the main pathologic findings of the epithelium were hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis and acanthosis, etc and in the subepithelium, vascular, exudative and degenerative changes.
