Neurogenic Tumors of the Head and Neck

ABSTRACT

A series of 34 patients with neurogenic tumors in the head and neck, excluding acoustic neuroma, were treated at the department of otolaryngology, Seoul National University Hospital from November 1973 to June 1985. Thirteen cases were Schwannomas, 7 cases were neurofibromas, 4 cases were esthesioneuroblastomas, and 3 cases were glomus tumors. The predilection site for the tumor were parapharyngeal space(21 cases). Three of the 21 cases involved the posterior cranial fossa. Fifteen cases were treated by simple excision. Among other procedures, infratemporal fossa approach was the most frequent method of operation(7 cases). Facial hypoglossal cross over was performed in 3 cases, and thyroplasty was done in 6 cases.
