ABSTRACT |
Acoustic neuroma is a benign encapsulated lesion arising from the eighth nerve within the internal auditory canal. The history of this tumor surgery spans nearly a century beginning with the work of Havey Cushing. Progress was very slow until 1961, when William House introduced microsurgery since then progress has been rapid. The advent of lasers was offered another opportunity for advancement in surgical technique. Recently we experienced an acoustic neuroma in a 29-years-old female patient, which originated from left internal auditory canal and proceeded to posterior cranial fossa. We obtained a favorable result without any acceptable complication by subtotal excision and decompression through translabyrinthine approach. So, we report this case with a brief review of literature.
