A Case of Neurilemmoma of the Facial Nerve

ABSTRACT

The neurilemmoma is a specific tumor derived from nerve sheath, first described by Velocay in 1908. The 25% of total cases occur in the head and neck. In the head and neck, the tumor mostly develops in the acoustic nerve and there are several reports of neurilemmoma originating from tongue, pharynx, lip, larynx, palate, maxillary sinus, salivary gland and thyroid gland. However, the neurilemmoma originating from facial nerve is extremely rare. Recently, we experienced and treated one case of facial nerve neurilemmoma and pronounce with of authers.
