ABSTRACT

Septic cavernous sinus thrombosis was fatal in preantibiotic era approaching its mortality rate to 100%. Since the advent of antibiotics in the 1940s, the incidence of the condition and the mortality from it have been markedly reduced. Only rarely are cases reported now. Recently, we experienced a case of cavernous sinus thrombosis with cheek abscess followed by acute pansinusitis and treated with antibiotics alone without residual sequelae. Because there are few recent cases in the otolaryngologic literature, we report a case of it and review the literatures to reacquaint with the diagnostic and managing considerations.
