ABSTRACT

Elongated styloid process and ossification of the stylohyoid or stylomandibular ligament is a source of craniofacial and cervical pain. Although the incidence of the styloid process elongation and the ossification of stylohyoid or stylomandibular ligament is not uncommon, only a few of these patients are symptomatic. The pathogenesis of the styloid process elongation and the exact cause of pain is unclear. Recently we have experienced five cases of styloid syndrome. Four patients were female and the other was male. Under the general a nesthesia, elongated styloid process was resected via intraoral approach. Postoperative course was uneventful and the symptoms were relieved in all cases.
