ABSTRACT

Since the first report of Aspergillus sinusitis by Shubert in 1885, the reported cases of Aspergillosis of paranasal sinus have been relatively rare. But, the frequent use of antibiotics, steroids, immunosuppressives and oncologic drugs, the incidence of such infection seems to be increased. The authors have experienced a cases of the fungus ball of maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid sinus and reported with a review of literatures. The patient complained of intermittent unilateral nasal obstruction, mucopurulent and blood tinged rhinorrhea for 6 years. Roentgenogram of paranasal sinuses revealed unilateral total haziness in maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid sinus with bone destruction but there was no abnormal findings in intracranial region. Malignancy suspected but took a pulmonary aspergilloma into account, exploration was done for the better evaluation.
