Statistics on the Vestibular Function Test in Healthy Young Adults

ABSTRACT

The incidence of dizziness as the presenting complaints in specialized otology has been increased. Various kinds of technique had been used for testing the vestibular function but their results had some difference in every person. So, we studied on vestibular function in young healthy medical students(Male 20, Female 20). The following results were obtained ; 1) In Romberg test, there was no falling or falling sensation for 60 scends in all cases. 2) One leg(raising) test ; There was no differences in male and female. 3) Arm-tonus reaction test ; There was no differences in male and female. 4) Past-pointing test ; Degree of deviation ; Male 8.5 cm, Female 7.7 cm. 5) Blind folded-vertical writing test ; Angle of deviation to Rt. ; 6.2, Lt. ; 6.1. 6) Square-drawing test ; No significant results. 7) Stepping test ; All cases showed foreward movement.

Angle of rotation ;   33.9 34.4

8) Gait test ; No falling or falling sensation in all cases. Distance of deviation ; 54.7 cm ~51.3 cm(foreward gait), 66.3 cm~78.0 cm(backward gait).
9) Caloric test ;

Cold water irrigation  Rt.  Lt.
    Incubation period ;  029.3 sec. 828.6 sec.
    Duration of nystagmus ;  101.3 sec.  105.6 sec..
Warm water irrigation  Rt.  Lt.
    Incubation period ;  31.5 sec.  c30.4 sec.
    Duration of nystagmus ;  98.3 sec.  c96.8 sec.
