ABSTRACT

Petrositis with periorbital pain, otorrhea and diplopia was made known as Gradenigo's syndrome by Gradenigo in 1907 and it was found to otolaryngologist intermittently in the past day. But it dwindleed away after 1940's with using antibiotics. Petrositis can be cured by antibacterial medication in sufficient dosage but it reguires operation when resistent organisms are involved. We experienced a case of acute petrositis, secondary to acute otitis media forming Gradenigo's syndrome and Bezold's abcess, epidural abcess and parapharyngeal abcess, which was treated surgically. So we report this case with brief review of the literature.
