ABSTRACT

Epiglottitis is an acute illness mainly occurring in young infants, in whom it may quickly progress to respiratory obstruction if a proper treatment is not given at the early stage of the disease. The common symptoms are high fever, sore throat, dyspnea and saliva drooling. Pharyngeal inspection reveals a cherry red or edematous epiglottis. Early recognition and rapid management are essential steps to avoid a possible life-threatening complications. Authors have experienced 13 cases of acute epiglottitis at Kang Dong Sacred Heart Hospital for recent two years and analyzed the clinical findings of these cases.
