ABSTRACT

The epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma arises in any glandular structures, especially it has a predilection in the salivary gland. The epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma originates from the intercalated duct which is double layer tubular structure composed of the inner epithelial layer and the outer myooepithelial layer. Although histologically this neoplasm exhibits a high degree of cellular differentiation, it is classified into intermediated group of carcinoma because of its loccally infiltrative, destructive growth pattern, frequent rate of local recurrence, and the potential for early metastasis to regional and distant lymphatics. Recently, the authors have experienced 2 cases of epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma in the parotid gland and the minor salivary gland and report them briefly.
