ABSTRACT

The MAST CLA(Multiple allergosorbent test chemiluminescent assay) detects the allergen-IgE reaction by the use of an enzyme-labeled anti-IgE, and permits the quick, simultaneous detection in human serum of total IgE and specific IgE of up to 35 different allergens. The purpose of this study was to compare the MAST with the RAST and intradermal skin test as an adjunct to the diagnosis of inhalant allergies. The results were as follows : 1) Of the cases showing positive response to MAST, common positive allergens were house dust and house dust mite. 2) The sensitivity, specificity and efficiency of MAST were similar as those of RAST. 3) The correlation between PRIST value and MAST value for total serum IgE was significant, but the MAST results are imprecise. There results suggested that MAST could offer a valuable method for the mass screening of serum specific IgE antibody to common inhalant allergens.
