ABSTRACT |
Fifty three cases of congenital preauricular sinus of fistula those were extirpated surgically during past 5 years(March, 1990 to Feb, 1995) were retrospectively studied for the clinical and histopathologic findings and showed the following results. 1) The male to female ratio was 1 : 1.5. 2) Familial incidence was found in 7 cases(13.2%). 3) The sinuses were found bilaterally in 6 patients(11.3%) and unilaterally in 47 patients(88.7%). 4) External openings were found at the anterior margin of the ascending limb of the helix in all cases(100%). 5) There were no associated anomalies and disease except for 4cases(7.5%) of chronic otitis media. 6) Histopathologically, all cases were lined with squamous epithelium and 35 cases(66.0%) contained skin adnexa with or without cartilage.
