ABSTRACT

Aesthetic nasal tip surgery is considered one of the most important procedures in rhinoplasty. The importance of nasal tip surgery has been somewhat neglected in Korea. Nasal tip surgery is classified into four type : tip projection, which means tip augmentation ; tip rotation, which means the cephalic rotation of the tip ; a shortening of the tip, which means caudal septal resection ; and alar base resection, for a narrowing of the flared nostril. There are also many detailed techniques in each type of surgery. The tip surgery was performed in 66 cases of rhinoplasty during the last 30 months. In the case of tip projection and tip rotation, several techniques were combined. For tip projection, in 55 cases we used transdormal suture, in 60 cases strut, and in 56 cases shield. In tip rotation, 57 cases of cephalic trim, 18 cases of complete strip technique, and one case of interrupted technique were used. Alar base resection was performed in 21 cases. Only one case of caudal septal resection was performed. We used mainly septal and auricular cartilage for tip surgery. Our results suggest that for better results, nasal tip surgery is essential in rhinoplasty.
