ABSTRACT

Most salivary gland tumors develop within the parotid gland, with an overwhelming majority of tumors reportedly occurring in adults. However, no more than 5% of all salivary gland tumors occur in children. As compared with parotid tumors in adults, several histological and clinical features distinguish parotid tumors in children. The purpose of this study is to describe the various parotid tumors in children and to compare the differences between children and adults, for the benefit of optimal patient care in the future. From November 1990 to November 1992, nine patients younger than 15 years were treated for a mass of the parotid gland. We report them with a brief review of literature.
