ABSTRACT

Ten patients with advanced paranasal sinus cancer were treated with combined therapy. Multimodality therapy incorporated chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Patients were divided into two groups, the first group received chemotherapy followed by operation and radiotherapy in five cases and the second group received only radiotherapy after induction chemotherapy. Formers showed better results of survival and local control. CT scan demonstrated definite orbital invasion in four cases of the first group. If the tumor mass could be peeled from the periorbita after induction chemotherapy, the eye was saved in surgery. Local recurrence of disease in the orbit has not occured in these patients. The results of this study suggest that it may be possible to achieve better results with aggressive treatment including surgery in advanced lesion. Also we found the possibility of the orbital preservation in four cases with orbitial invasion.
