ABSTRACT

The tumor of nerve sheath origin was first described by Verocay in 1908, and was christened neurinoma in 1910. There were two opposing opinion arisen, first, that could arise from the cell of mesodermal origin since it contained considerable amount of collagen & reticulum cells, and was termed perineural fibroblastoma. Second, that could arise from the schwann cell of sheath, which was generally accepted and Stout termed it neurilemmoma in 1935. They may occur at any age and have shown no sex and location preponderance, however, usually occur in head and neck area in 25 percent and have not shown metastasis and are very radioresistent. We have, recently, experienced the neurilemmoma arising in the tongue on 38 yrs. old aged male and removed successfully through external approach. His postoperative condition had been uneventful.
