ABSTRACT |
Fibrous Histiocytoma is a soft tissue tumor of histiocytic origin. Most of them are benign, but one percent prove to be malignant. Reliable histologic criteria of malignancy are rare, if any, and the diagnosis of malignancy must be often made on the clinical view rather than histologic. Recurrence following the initial surgery is common and it is due to the incomplete excision of the primary lesion. At present, radiotherapy and chemotherapy appear to be of little value in the treatment of these tumors. Treatment of choice is a radical excision. Recently the author has experienced a giant benign fibrous histiocytoma of the left auricle. A 60-year-old female admitted to Busan National University Hospital on October 8, 1980 as a chief complaints of giant tumor mass from the left auricle. On physical examination, generalized edema, abdominal distension and an adult-head sized tumor mass from the left auricle was revealed. The size of tumor mass is measured as 22.5×17.5×13cm. The tumor mass was successfully removed by means of complete excision under the general anesthesia. Histopathological findings revealed interlacing and anastomosing bands of collagen fibroblasts and histiocytes, but no evidence of malignant process was seen. Postoperative condition was uneventful. No recurrence occurred. |
