ABSTRACT

It is important to have an adequate exposure in performing certain extensive surgical procedures in the region of the nasal passage and accessory sinuses. If the lesions are not treated surgically by the usual intranasal procedure, whether the lesions are benign or malignant, it may be difficult to excise the lesions adequately without a severe cosmetic or functional defect. Each year in our clinic three of four cases with extensive intranasal and paranasal lesions are seen, which are difficult to treat adequately by the usual intranasal technique. For recent two years, we have experienced six cases of the above mentioned lesions which were treated by lateral rhinotomy approach with acceptable result cosmetically and functionally, and report here now with reviewing the literatures.
