ABSTRACT

Posterior nasal bleeding is still one of the most troublesome problems for otolaryngologists. If the bleeding is severe and control is difficult, it may cause a dangerous condition. Therefore, prompt and effective treatment is necessary and there are several methods to control bleeding. The authors have controlled posterior nasal bleeding with a Foley catheter, but we have usually experienced nasal alar damage, ipsiltateral facial edema, and swelling of eyelid. As we experienced good results in posterior nasal bleeding by using a new method of a Foley catheter, IV. clip and rubber ring, we report it here with a review of the literature.
