ABSTRACT

Melkersson syndrome is a rare condition characterized by the triad of relapsing peripheral facial palsy, facial edema & lingua plicata. The definition of this syndrome has been altered by some authors to include a monosymptomatic form of Miescher's cheilitis granulomatosa and an oligosymptomatic from combining only two of the classical findings. But orofacial swelling may also occur as oral manifestation of some wider disease process and leukoplakic changes in cheilitis granulomatosa should be regarded as precancerous disease. Since the cause of MRS is unknown, various form of therapy has been tried, but there was no conclusive evidence that they altered the course of the disease. This article presents two case of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome in which one patient had recurrent swelling of lip, fissured tongue & facial palsy and another no plica linguata.
