Clinical Evaluation for 1108 Cases of the Voice Disorders

ABSTRACT

During past five years and eight months, the author figured out clinical statistics for 1108 patients of the voice disorders, from May 1981 to December 1986 at Voice Dynamic Laboratory, Department of Otolaryngology, Yonsei University Severance Hospital. The following results were obtained : 1) Among 1108 cases, male was 634 cases(57.2%), and female 474 cases(42.8%), so sex ratio was 1.4 : 1. 2) The underlying diseases causing voice disorders in order of frequency were vocal nodule 227 cases(25.0%), chronic laryngitis 172 cases(15.6%), vocal polyp 154 cases(13.9%), vocal cord palsy 148 cases(13.4%), sulcus vocalis 113 cases(10.0%), laryngeal cancer 80 cases(7.3%), Reinke's edema 76 cases(6.9%), laryngeal papilloma 40 cases(3.6%) and other diseases of larynx 48 cases(4.3%).
