ABSTRACT

The effect of noise on hearing after administration of alcohol was studied in rabbits. The threshold changes after exposure to 1KHz and 2KHz pure tone(100dB) for 15 minutes were evaluated in the control group and the alcohol administration group. After 1KHz pure tone exposure, the threshold shift was significantly greater, the range of involved frequencies was wider, and the recovery was slower in alcohol administration group than in control group. After 2KHz pure tone exposure, there were no significant differences in thereshold shift and recovery period between two groups. It was suggested that the inner ear might be more vulnerable to loud low frequency noise with alcohol administration.
