ABSTRACT

It is well known that hypopharyngeal cancer is one of the poorest prognosis in head & neck malignancy. So, it requires extensive combined treatment including chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy. However, no matter how widely the lesion is resected, there are still many technical difficulties arising in reconstruction of surgical defect. Although many reconstruction methods have been introduced, each has its own merit and demerit and there is no single perfect answer. Therefore it is a surgeon's option to choose one among them based on his or her own consideration. Authors reparted 2 cases of hypopharyngeal cancer by primary total laryngopharyngectomy and RND followed by secondary reconstruction of hypopharynx using cervical skin flap and deltopectoral flap.
