A Clinical Study on Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of Waldeyer's Ring

ABSTRACT

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL) often occur in extranodal site. Among the head and neck regions, Waldeyer's ring is predominant site. Recently, improvement of treatment result and prognosis were achieved by effective chemotherapeutic agents and development of treatment modality. The authors experienced 25 cases of clinically and pathologically diagnosed NHL in Waldeyer's ring which were treated with CHOP-pepleo combination chemotherapy from January 1987 to December 1988. The results were as follows ; 1) During recent 2 year, the incidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in malignant tumors of head and neck at Kosin medical center were 13.3%. The radio of male and female was 1.1 :1 and the highest incidences of age distribution were 4th and 6th decades but it occur almost all age groups. 2) By Rappaport histopathologic classification, all cases were diffuse type and the commonest subtype was histiocytic type in 12 cases(63.2%). 3) The number of stage II were 11 cases(57.9%), stage I were 4 cases(21.1%) stage IV were 3 cases(15.8%) and stage III were 1 cases(5.3%) according to the clinical staging of AJCC(1988). 4) Predominant sites were palatine tonsil in 12 cases(63.2%), nasopharynx in 5 cases(26.3%), tongue root in 2 cases(10.5%). 5) The results of CHOP-pepleo combination chemotherapy in 18 cases were as follows;complete remission in 13 cases(72.2%), partial remission in 4 cases(22.2%), lost follow up in 1 case.
