ABSTRACT

Serial recordings of ABR in eight guinea pigs were performed after lateral semicircular canal destruction and muscle piece plugging procedure. Spontaneous nystagmus toward the nonoperated side was developed following the procedure, and which was disappeared on the next day in all animals. Seven animals showed a little threshold change in serial recordings of ABR, but one animal developed profound hearing loss on the tenth postoperative day. Preservation of hearing after lateral semicircular canal destruction and canal occlusion procedure in guinea pigs suggests the possibility of its clinical application.
