ABSTRACT |
Acinic cell carcinoma of salivary gland is uncommom, it represents 2 to 5% of primary parotid gland neoplasms. Although originally described as adenomas, their propensity for local recurrence and ability to metastasize is now well recognized. Acinic cell carcinomas are composed of serous acinar cells and intercalated duct-type cells with frequent transitional forms. Morphologic patterns included solid, microcystic, follicular, and papillary-cystic. The best opportunity for cure of these neoplasms lies in their complete surgical removal at the time of initial treatment. Poor prognostic features include pain or fixation, gross invasion, microscopic features of desmoplasia, atypia, or increased mitotic activity and excision as initial treatment. Recently the authors have experienced a very rare case of recurrent acinic cell carcinoma of the nasopharynx in 43 years old woman. The patient received mass removal via a transpalatal approach and postoperative radiotherapy, and during follow up period no evidence of recurrence. So we are reporting this case with a review of the literatures.
