ABSTRACT

Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by one of the ubiquitous fungi of the order Mucorales belonging to the class Zygomycetes, occurring almost exclusively in immunocompromised hosts such as patients with hematologic malignancies, diabetes mellitus, chronic illness and organ implantation. The clinical manifestions of mucormycosis have classically been divided into the following entities : rhinocerebral, pulmonary, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, CNS, disseminated and miscellaneous. There was only one reported case of tracheal mucormycosis in the literature in USA. Recently the authors have experienced a case of subglottic mucormycosis, which was successfully treated with wide excision and amphotericin B. So we report this case with brief review of the mucormycosis.
