The esophageal diverticulum is the herniation of esophageal mucosa through a muscular defect in posterior esophageal wall just proximal to the cricopharyngeus muscle. If a diverticulum is large enough to cause symptoms, surgery is necessary. We have experienced one case of diverticulum on proximal esophagus which was removed by diverticulectomy with myotomy. So, we report the case with review of literatures.
