A case of orbital meningioma not connected to optic nerve.

ABSTRACT

Meningioma is one of the most common tumors in the brain ; however, extracranial meningioma is relatively rare. Orbital meningioma attached to the optic nerve is the most common form of extracranial meningiomas. Orbital meningioma not connected to the optic nerve is a rare disease, and only two cases have been reported in literature. We experienced a case of extracranial meningioma not connected to the optic nerve involing orbital floor, infatemporal fossa and maxillary sinus. Five years previonsly had been this case was misdiagnosed as orbital malignant Schwannoma. This patient was treated by modified maxillectomy and finally diagnosed as extracranial meningioma.
