ABSTRACT

Primary peripheral nerve sheath tumors are classified as schwannomas, neurofibromas or their malignant counterpart, neurogenic sarcoma. These lesions can occur throughout the body, but demonstrate a distinctly higher incidence of occurrence in the head & neck region. Previously, NF 1 was known as von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis or peripheral neurofibromatosis. Plexiform neurofibroma is one of 3 types of cutaneous tumors in von Recklinghausen's disease and non-metastasizing, locally invasive tumors of schwann cell origin. Recently, the authors experienced a case of plexiform neurofibroma in auriculotemporal nerve sheath ; which was removed by face-lifting approach and verified for plexiform neurofibroma.
