ABSTRACT

An experimental study was done on the changes of tissue mast cells of skin and digestive organs using various intensities of white noise. The healthy white mice weighing 17~20 gm were exposed to 120 db, and 80 db White noise for intervals of an hour, 30 minutes and 15 minutes and 50 db White noise for an hour. And the changes of tissue mast cells of skin and digestive organs were observed in the process of time and obtained the following results. 1) The stronger the exposed white noise is, the more the decrease of tissue mast cells of skin and digestive organs in number is observed. Therefore as exposed to 120 db white noise, the most the intensive changes of tissue mast cells in number and shape are observed in the various organs, the next order as exposed to 80 db and the least one as exposed to 50 db white noise respectively. 2) The longer the exposed time to the white noise is, the more the influence on the tissue mast cells in the various organs is observed. 3) Accordingly the most severe changes are initiated as exposed to 120 db white noise for an hour. The number of tissue mast cells of skin and digestive organs is dropped abruptly in 10 minutes after exposing to 120 db White noise for an hour, reaches minimum in 3 hours, and then it is recovered slowly to normal state until 7 days. 4) In the experimental groups exposed to 120 db white noise for 30 minutes and 80 db white noise for an hour, the changes of tissue mast cells in the skin and digestive organs are the following : The number of tissue mast cells begins to decrease abruptly in 10 minutes after exposing to white noise, reaches minimum in 1 hour and then is recovered gradually until 2 days to normal state. 5) In the experimental groups exposed to 120 db White noise for 15 minutes and 80 db White noise for 30 minutes, the number of mast cells in the skin and digestive organs begins to decrease markedly in 10 minutes, reaches minimum in 30 minutes and then is recovered gradually in 12 hours to normal state. 6) As the animals are exposed to 80 db White noise for 15 minutes, the number of tissue mast cells in the skin and digestive organs decreases slightly. 7) As the animals are exposed to 50 db White noise for an hour, the changes of tissue mast cells in the skin and digestive organs are similar to the results of control groups. 8) In the experimental groups exposed to various intensities of white noise for a certain intervals of time, the number of tissue mast cells in the skin shows the most marked decrease and the next order is the stomach, the small intestine, the esophagus and the large intestine respectively. 9) The percentage of the normal mast cells is direct proportional and that of degranulating mast cells is in inverse to the total number of mast cells but the recovery of former is a little delayed as compared to that of  the latter.
