ABSTRACT |
A 20 year-old male was admitted to Chonnam University Hospital on Dec. 28, 1964 with chief complaints of nasal obstruction, intermittent nasal bleeding and rhinolalia clausa for 3 month duration. Nasopharynx and choanae were occupied with child fist sized round, smooth, bluish pink, firm tumor mass. Soft palate was buldged forward and downward by the tumor mass. X-ray study of the nasopharynx revealed a giant soft mass on nasopharyngeal space probably originating from floor of the sphenoidal sinus with slight homogenous cloudness of sphenoidal sinus. Total 2000 r of X-ray irradiation was administered for 10 days in order to reduce the hemorrhage during surgery. Operation was performed under general anesthesia by transpalatal approach preceding with ligation of left external carotid artery on Dec. 30, 1964. Histological finding revealed small and large abundant blood vessels and many fibrocytes but no hyaline degeneration. Postoperative condition was uneventful. The patient was discarged in good condition after 15 th postoperative day.
