ABSTRACT |
Inverting papilloma of the nose and sinuses is a rare, benign neoplasm. Ward first describe a nasal papilloma in 1854, but its infrequent occurerence has delayed accurate understanging. One of the characterstic features was its tendency to recur after removal. A most striking feature of the pathology of the inverting papilloma is a marked proliferation of the epithelial structure which leads to the involvement of the surface with an intact basement membrane. The authors have recently experienced case of huge inverting papilloma which occupied the nasal cavity, maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, sphenoid sinus, and frontal sinus. (mass Wt : 200gm) A 49 year old male patient was admitted through the OPD with nasal obstruction, protruded mass in the nasal cavity and left upper eyelid with easy contact bleeding on Fed. 16, 1970. The mentioned symptoms developed progressively about 6 months age. At that time the biopsy report revealed inverting papilloma of the nose and RNS. Therefore, removal of the papillary mass was done. On June-20, 1970, this patients was readmitted with a regrowing mass on the left upper eyelid and cheek, which had begun 2 months after the operation. Repeated removal of the tumor mass and
Co60 irradiation was attemped. There is no evidence of recurrence at the present time.
