Clinical Observation of Cystic Lesions of Maxilla |

ABSTRACT |
Twenty two cases of cystic lesions of the maxilla who were admitted and treated at Busan National University Hospital for 8 years and 8 months from Jan. 1968 to Aug. 1975 were clinically observed. The results were as follows : 1) Cystic lesions of the maxilla were 22 cases (1.8%) of 2021 patients who were admitted for past 8 years and 8 months. Of 22 cases, postoperative maxillary sinus cyst occurred most frequently showing 9 cases (40.9%) of total cases. 2) Age distribution was predominant in 2nd. and 3rd. decade showing 12 cases (54.5%) all cases with follicular cyst were 1st. decade. 3) 11 cases (50%) were female. All cases of nasoalveolar cyst and maxillary sinus mucocele were females. 4) Cystic lesions of the maxilla were located most frequently on left side showing 14 cases (63.9%). 5) There were 10 cases (45.5%) having cheek swelling and tenderness, 8 cases (36.4%) having cheek swelling, 7 cases (31.8%) having nasal symptoms, 4 cases (18.2%) having cheek pain, 2 cases (9.1%) having foreign body sensations, 2 cases (9.1%) having teeth pain with oral cavity symptoms, and I case (4.6%) having eye symptoms. 6) Time lag from onset of clinical symptoms to admission ranged from one month to 25 years and duration of 1 year~2 years was most commonly. 7) Most frequent capacity of cyst was 7~10 cc showing 12 cases (54.5%) and postoperative maxillary sinus cyst was relatively larger in size than odontogenic cyst. Content of cyst was most frequently mucoid type in 10 cases (45.5%) and serous type was next in orders. |
