ABSTRACT |
The conventional method of dilatation of esophageal stricture with various kinds of bougie is not satisfactory because it may do nothing but a temporary dilatation. On the other hand laminaria tent which used in Obstetrics and Gynecology for cervical dilatation is known to have a steady and progressive strong dilatating action. Authors have satisfactory clinical experience with this laminaria on esophageal stricture. A 20 years old female patient who has known esophageal stricture following ingestion of chloral-sulfate 3 months ago visited our ENT clinic with the compaint of severe dysphagia. On esophagogram and esophagoscopy one could notice narrowing between first and second esophageal ring measuring about 2cm in length. Authors inserted laminaria tent, small sized, into it with No.6 silk string tie on its head and fixing it on the cheek to prevent slipping down beyond the narrowing. 24 hours later removed it and could pass Jackson esophagoscope, 1.5cm in diameter, freely. On post dilatation esophagogram, one could notice satisfactory dilatation. |
