ABSTRACT |
105 foreign body cases in food and air passages (from May 1972 to July 1976) at our department have been studied and following results were obtained. 1) 96 cases were found in the esophagus and 9 cases in the trachea and bronchus. 2) The incidence of the foreign bodies in order of frequency was coin (87.5%), bone (3.1%) and meat & food particles (3.1%) in the esophagus. 3) All coin cases were found in children under 10-year-old, especially 68% were found in years of age. The entire fishbone cases in air passages were found under 1-year-old. 4) In sex incidence, males were more than females in both food and air passages. 5) In the foreign body of the esophagus, 89% were found in the 1st narrowing and 10% were in the 2nd narrowing. All broncheal foreign bodies were found in the Lt. main bronchus. 6) In duration of lodgement, 87.5% were removed out within 3 days from food passage and 88.9% were removed out within 3 days from air passage.
