ABSTRACT |
Ramsay Hunt's syndrome seems to be not so rarely seen at present. It is widely known to be certainly a virus disease which has main three symptoms, facial nerve paralysis, herpes zoster and inner ear disturbance. However, it is so often encountered atypical form of this syndrome, that there has been considerable difference in the clinical features among the reports. Authors report two cases of Ramsay Hunt's syndrome, and then the clinical features are analysed by use of 25 cases, which were 23 cases appeared in Korean articles 1967 through 1977 and our two cases at this time. The result obtained was summerized as follows ; 1) It occurred more often in male showing 16 cases(64%) and it also occurred more often on right side showing 16 cases(64%). 2) It was seen relatively more often in third decades, showing 9 cases(36%) and 6 cases (24%) respectively. 3) Of all types of the clinical pictures, type II of Hunt classification was seen the most frequently showing 10 cases (40%), and then type III next in order. 4) Vesicular eruption appeared as initial symptom in 13 cases(52%), and vesicular eruption alone or with other symptoms appeared as initial symptom in most cases. 5) Although facial nerve paralysis and vesicular eruption appeared in all cases, there was so often the absence of cochlear symptoms or vestibular symptoms in many cases. 6) Main conservative treatment was administration of antibiotics and steroid hormone. In addition, vitamins, ATP etc. were given. 7) Vesicular eruption subsided about one week after onset of the symptom. Of 17 cases with facial nerve paralysis which was observed for one-8 months 9 cases(54%) came to excellent result and 7 cases(42%) came to good result. |
